Skins fans can bid a not-so-fond adieu to October. Our beloved team entered the month at 2-1, and quickly moved to 3-1 after beating the Rams on October 2. Unfortunately, it has been a nightmare ever since.
I won’t spend a lot of time on the
· Without a deep threat and a patchwork O-Line, why does Kyle continue to call plays that take so long to develop?
· With 10 minutes remaining and trailing by 20, why was there no sense of urgency? Get out of the huddle sooner!
· On the defensive side of the ball, we surrendered a total of 63 points in the first four games – 15.3 points per game – but have given up 76 during our current three game losing streak – 25.3 points per game. Where has the defense gone?!
My hope entering this season was the Skins would finish a competitive 8-8, maybe 9-7, and build upon that in the offseason. Next season was going to be the year we’d contend for the post-season. While I’m discouraged by our play recently, Beck has done some good things, the defense has shown improvement, and our running game has the potential to be very effective when we stick with it. Maybe the week one win over the Giants raised our hopes a little too high too soon.
Good news for our battered QB -- we should get Trent Williams back at LT this week to provide our Beck some much needed protection after being sacked nine times last week.
Our opponent this week is the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers. And while leading the West is usually nothing to brag about, the Niners are 6-1, and their defense has given up the fewest points (107) of any team in the NFL. They are a good, solid team -- but we play better at home, and if we can get our running game going, hopefully we can control the ball, wear down their defense, and come away with the victory.
Maybe then I’ll come off the ledge.
HAIL!...............................Mary K. Priddy
