WHEN GLOOM and DOOM REAR THEIR HEADS . . . go on a trip, I guess!

Well, after that MESS of a game in North Carolina Sunday, the Injured Reserve list is filling up, there are plenty of free seats on our bandwagon, and our Defense has forgotten how to stop the run or pass seemingly overnight!

Two key starters on Offense are out for the year as Chris Cooley and Tim Hightower will both have season-ending surgeries after getting hurt in Charlotte, leading WR Santana Moss is out for 3 to 6 weeks with a broken hand, and Trent Williams remains out with a high ankle sprain.  All of the Power Rankings have us in free fall after peaking into the top 10 a few weeks ago.  And Coach Haslettís Defense made rookie phenom Cam Newton look like a seasoned pro as the John Beck-led Redskins fell to the Panthers in a game that was nowhere near as close as the score would indicate.

So letís shake things up and go to Toronto for a game against the Bills.  After stewing over a loss to their intrastate rivals, the New York Giants, through their bye week, the Bills will be looking to get back on the winning road with one of the home games they are sacrificing for their Canadian neighbors.  The Bills have been surprisingly efficient early this season, with a 4-2 record to show for it.  QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, WR Steve Johnson, and RB Fred Jackson are all doing the little things right to help them win.  Twelve touchdowns from Fitzpatrick has him on the verge of a contract extension, and Johnson is also playing for a contract, so those are guys to watch against our suddenly porous secondary.

Fred Davis and some of our younger Wideouts will need to step up with Santana out, but we drafted these guys for a reason - -  and we do have some veterans to help them out in Donte Stallworth and Jabar Gaffney, but we HAVE to stop the drops that have plagued us lately.  The running game should see a larger dose of Rookie Roy Helu, with Hightower going down, and the passing game can get nothing but better with John Beck getting more work with the starters.  Anything is better than Grossman.

All in all this will be a tough game, but it is one that we CAN win - - and if we want to make any noise and have any relevance this year, this is a game we NEED to win!

HAIL!...............................John Priddy

The Redskins have added tight end Dominique Byrd to the 53-man roster to fill the spot created when Chris Cooley was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.  Byrd, selected by the St. Louis Rams in the third round of the 2006 draft out of USC, appeared in 14 games and recorded a combined six catches for 83 yards and one touchdown in his first two seasons in the NFL.  Byrd then spent the next two seasons in Arizona, but didnít appear in a game.  Most recently he was with the Seattle Seahawks, appearing in one game this season.  The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder likely will compete with Mike Sellers for playing time as the teamís third tight end.  Byrd joins fellow former USC tight end Fred Davis on the roster.

The Redskins also have added center/guard Jonathan Compas to the 53-man roster.  The Cal- Davis product signed with Oakland as an undrafted rookie in 2009, and had brief stints with Tampa Bay and New England in the last year.  He played guard in college but learned how to play center once he reached the NFL.   Compas said he expects to be used at both spots by the Redskins.

The Redskins have signed running back Tristan Davis to their practice squad.  Davis, who played at Auburn but went undrafted in 2009, started this season on the Pittsburgh Steelersí practice squad.
