A GOOD SHOWING in HORRIBLE CONDITIONS

The Washington Redskins gained a few more believers across the nation during a hard-fought loss in the Mile High City on Sunday. With cold temperatures and driving rain throughout the entire game, the Skins fought through questionable calls and a couple of key defensive breakdowns to challenge the Broncos at the very end of regulation, with a chance to send the game to overtime. But the game-tying two-point conversion attempt fell to the ground after some good defense by Bronco defensive back Ian Gold. Quarterback Mark Brunell again did what needed to be done . . . hitting a variety of receivers . . . including David Patten on a TD that was called back . . . and running for a crucial first down late in the game. Overall it was a good performance by the team in a very hostile environment! One notably missing player, though, was LB Lavar Arrington, who watched the game from the sidelines in a sparkling white clean jersey.

This week is the second leg of the tough "AFC West Road Trip" with a stop in Arrowhead Stadium to face the suddenly desperate Kansas City Chiefs. After starting off 2-0, they dropped their last 2 before their bye. Those losses included a second-half collapse against the Eagles in a game they led 24-6. They have had two weeks to chew on that, so they should be pretty ornery. The Redskins are playing well and should find success against the Chiefs' defense, which has a few strong players ~~ notably Rookie Longhorn Linebacker Derrick Johnson ~~ but not much else. Stopping the run should be a big focus of Gregg Williams this week after giving up two long TDs to Denver Back Tatum Bell, and that has been the meat of KC's offense this year, so we should have a good Sunday.

With the trade deadline coming up next week . . . I would love to see us move Lavar if we are not going to play him . . let's get SOMETHING for him . . . ..........................................John Priddy

BURGUNDY & GOLD FANTASY LEAGUE UPDATE ~ Week #5

Calley's Allstars (John Priddy) remained the only unbeaten team, overcoming a strong challenge from the fighting Hellfish (Matt Goldie) in a key Burgundy Division Matchup on the back of Antonio Gates' strong Monday Night game.
The Redskins (Linda Domin) overcame a dismal showing by Donovan McNabb to down Primetime (Rodney Twyman).
70-Chip (Kenn Jackson) beat Unsung Heroes (John Domin) on the strength of the Dallas defense, with the Heroes also getting the bad news that RB Deuce McAllister will miss the rest of the season.
TDsNDC (Son of Carl Murphy) got off the schneid with a strong showing over the Aquabats (Josh Beckett) with strong contributions from Chris Cooley.
High Score Game of the Week and an important Gold Division tilt, Game Over (Danny Zegan) topped Jerry's 421 (Mary Priddy) with a huge game from the Colts' Defense.

Standings after Week 5:

Burgundy Division Gold Division
Calley’s Allstars 5 - 0 70-Chip 4 - 1
The Redskins 4 - 1 Game Over 3 - 2
HellFish 2 - 3 Primetime 2 - 3
TDsnDC 1 - 4 Jerry's 421 2 - 3
The Aquabats 0 - 5 Unsung Heroes 2 - 3

This week's schedule includes key games with Calley's Allstars vs the Redskins (minus McNabb)
and 70-Chip vs Game Over (possibly minus Julius Jones)!
