Fun ~ Exciting ~ Victorious . . . Joe Gibbs Must be Back!!

The 2004-2005 Washington Redskins season opened Sunday with a dominating victory against the Tampa Bay Bucs in front of a record crowd of over 90,000 at FedEx Field. The lucky ones in attendance, as well as fans all over the country, saw Clinton Portis make an electrifying debut as the Redskins' featured back sliced up the vaunted Buccaneers' defense for 148 yards! They also saw the aggressive defense of Assistant Head Coach Gregg Williams blitz the Brad-Johnson-led Bucs offense into submission! Fred Smoot did just fine as the replacement corner for the guy we traded to bring Portis to us!

This week we get right into the divisional games with an early season tilt against the New York Football Giants. The G-Men were overwhelmed by the "Donovan and Terrell" show in Philly last week, so they should be fairly angry. However, with their lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball, we should have no problem putting up some big numbers. Hopefully first-round pick Sean Taylor should see a little more playing time this week as our blitzes wreak havoc with either veteran QB Kurt Warner or shiny new rookie Eli Manning. The running game of the Giants is a little more stout than that of the Bucs, but we have enough speed to contain Tiki Barber and enough muscle to clog up lanes in front of Ron Dayne.

It is just so much fun to watch a defense that is excited to be out there kicking butt!!! ..............................John Priddy

The Burgundy & Gold Fan Club's first Opening Day Tailgate Party was a success!

In spite of the warm, muggy weather (and only one tree for shade!), we had a good turnout, with lots of tasty morning munchies and great live music! It was a super way to kick off the season, and everyone was pumped up for the opening day victory!

A BIG thanks to all who contributed food and drink (and birthday cake) for the tailgate!

Watch for announcements for future pre-game tailgate parties (and in much cooler "football" weather). Two possibilities are the Green Bay and/or Pittsburgh games!
