D I V I S I O N A L G R U D G E M A T C H !!!

Last week's visit by the New England Patriots was another episode in the ongoing cliffhanger that is the Redskins' 2003 season, as yet another game was not decided until the final minute. We jumped out to a lead for change, at one point holding a 20-3 edge. Unfortunately, we went into "prevent mode" after that, which allowed the Pats to score 14 easy points -- making it close and hinging on a final defensive stand. This swing was helped by an absolutely atrocious call on a Laverneus Coles catch that was ruled incomplete, which killed a drive that would have "killed the cock." On the final play in question, Pats' Coach Belichek decided not to chance a 55 yard field goal attempt (thankfully), and kept his offense on the field. Brady's pass was broken up by Ohalete (we said his name quite a bit on Sunday), and the victory was sealed -- a lot closer than it needed to be though, due to Coach Spurrier's annoying habit of trying to sit on the lead too early in the second half. I'm not just saying that because I have Patrick Ramsey as my Fantasy starter and wanted him to throw the ball -- a couple of first downs will chew up the clock a lot faster than three runs and a punt! Enough about the bad things -- the Redskins are 3 -1 and ALONE ATOP THE NFC EAST!!! Also, we are finally getting a little bit of credit in the national media as CBS Sportsline Power Rankings have us at #11 as does ESPN.

This week it gets real serious real quick as our Redskins travel to the shiny new home of the hated Philadelphia Eagles -- Lincoln Financial Field. Oddly enough, the Eagles' home field advantage seems to have vanished with the horrible turf of the soon to be demolished Vet. They have looked absolutely pathetic at home in two losses this year to the Bucs and Patriots, enduring verbal abuse from the loving Philly fans. They finally got it in gear last week with a strong performance against the Bills in Buffalo. Perhaps being away from the Boobirds of Brotherly Love took the pressure off, but they will be back under the microscope again this Sunday as a key divisional match plays out. The Eagles' perennially strong defense has been decimated by injuries, with most of their big hitters down for the count. So our speedy wideouts should have monster days when this one is over. The Eagles' offense starts and ends with Donovan McNabb, so Lavar should be busy shadowing him all day. With Champ and Smoot (who had an awesome day against the Pats) covering the Eagles' thin receiving corps, we have chance to make a serious statement in this game, and prove to the world that reports of our demise have been greatly exaggerated! The Giants are entertaining a talented Dolphins team, and the Cokeboys have an emotional game against the Cardinals on tap, so we need to hold, serve and smack the Eagles back down to the bottom of the cellar. This game starts a brutal three-week stretch before the bye, with the Bucs and Bills waiting in the wings, so we need this game in a major way! With the "Emmitt Hype Machine" in full swing this weekend, it is doubtful the game will be on local TV. So make your plans to come on out early to Austin Avenue and support the Burgundy and Gold.

DO YOU HAVE YOUR TICKETS YET??

Last week's deadline for obtaining tickets before our "hold" section was lifted came as a complete surprise. However, on 09/24, when the call came in, there were only 28 tickets sold ~~ but many of you acted promptly, and by 09/26, over 60 tickets had been sold! Tickets to the game are still available, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to get into the B&G Section. Becca has been very helpful, so call her directly at (972) 785-4060 and ask if there are any seats in Section 17, Rows 20 - 29 (that's where we are) ~~ there may still be some left.

Regardless of where you're sitting in the stadium for the game, there is always room at the best tailgating party outside with the B&G Fan Club! We will be partying behind the Corral in the Blue Parking area. If you are planning to purchase a Blue Parking Pass and have extra seats in your vehicle, share the cost with other fans and arrange car pools, or help carry coolers, food, chairs, etc.!
