Third down was the killer this weekend – the Falcons converted 9 of 17, while the good guys only managed 1 of 9. I firmly believe had RG3 been in the game, we would have won. Cousins came in under the worst possible scenario and wasn’t able to move the team. The defense was completely gassed at the end due to the offense’s inability to sustain any drives, and gave up the late scores. To hold one of the top offenses in the league in check until the end is something the team hopefully builds on.
Speaking of RG3 . . . like the rest of you, I didn’t exhale until 8:00 p.m. Sunday night when the team announced “mild concussion.” Hopefully this will teach our franchise QB that this isn’t the Big 12, and to either slide or get out of bounds. While I love his determination and toughness, I’ll take his health over 2 extra yards every time. All indications are he will be under center Sunday against the Vikings.
We had our best kick of the season Tuesday, when Shanahan kicked Peg Leg Cundiff to the curb in favor of Kai Forbath, the former 2009 Lou Groza winner as the top collegiate Kicker. I was psyched about the Cundiff signing in September, but converting only 20% of your kicks isn’t going to get it done.
This week we face the 4-1 Vikings at home in a very winnable game. While we are better than 2-3 in my opinion, I am not completely sold on the Vikings’ 4-1 start. They had a very impressive win over the 49ers, but wins over the Jags, Lions, Titans, and a loss to the Colts, leads me to believe if we play like we played Sunday, we will win. Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin will certainly present challenges for our defense, but I think the Skins will be motivated to break their 8-game home losing streak and square our season record at 3-3!
