T W O D O W N . . . O N E T O G O!
The Redskins fought their way to a delicious 28-3 lead at halftime over the hated Dallas Cowboys, and then watched it disappear in the 2nd half. When the Cowboys pulled to within 7 points in the 4th quarter, I know what we all were thinking . . . Here We Go Again! But this time was different; this time we had a General on the field in RGIII who led us on a tremendous time-killing scoring drive that put the game out of realistic reach. And so ended step two of the NFC East Trifecta that has put us back in discussions for playoff contention. And a very pleasant week it has been at work and in the grocery stores - - basically anyplace we can wear our colors - - we have been flying the Burgundy & Gold proudly this week!
This week is also bittersweet in that 5 years ago we all got the gut-wrenching news about a favorite player for a lot of us - - #21~Sean Taylor - - dying at the hands of a group of ignorant punks, who STILL have not been punished. From all reports his family is doing well, with his daughter, now 6 years old, very active in soccer. Sean, as we all know, was inducted earlier this year as one of the ď80 Greatest RedskinsĒ of all time . . . so well-deserved. Who knows how great he could have become!
But on to the task at hand this week . . . completing the NFC East Trifecta with a Monday Night rematch against the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants. They have the same weapons that they had earlier this year, with the exception of their running game. Andre Brown, the bruising goal-line back, is out with a broken fibula. David Wilson, their speedy rookie, is supposed to get more action, but Ahmad Bradshaw is still getting the lionís share of the carries. Their receivers are formidable when healthy, but they are pretty dinged up, as everyone is at this point in the year. Eli is as dangerous as always, but had been struggling a bit lately - - until last week in their primetime destruction of the Packers. Our Defense was fantastic in the first half rout of the Cowboys, but gave up too many plays in the second half last week - - and late in the first game against the Giants for that matter. Victor Cruz anyone? So the Defense will need to tighten up and close off the corners. The Offensive line will have to be on their game against the multi-pronged pass rush that the Giants bring. Itís going to be tough, but this is the kind of game that serious teams play in late November, the kind of game that a team on the rise finds a way to win!
